ATLANTA (January 12, 2024) — The Atlanta Pride Committee is pleased to announce that the 2024 Atlanta Pride Festival will be held in Piedmont Park on October 12-13, 2024. Since it began in Piedmont Park in 1970, the Atlanta Pride Festival has grown to welcome more than 300,000 visitors and hosts the city's largest parade. The annual celebration will again coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11. October is also recognized as LGBTQ+ History Month.
“The 2024 Atlanta Pride Festival, now in its 55th year, falls during a critical time for our state and country,” said Executive Director Chris McCain. “Now more than ever, we must come together to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community’s unity and visibility. We are excited to continue growing our event, with a goal of offering something for everyone.” In 2023, Atlanta Pride experienced record attendance at its parade and three community marches. The festival regularly features a community marketplace, artist market, family fun zone, and a diverse array of performances, including the Starlight Cabaret (the nation’s largest outdoor drag event).
Crystal Stubbs, chair of the Atlanta Pride Committee’s Board of Directors, noted, “We recognize that the first day of this year’s festival will overlap with Yom Kippur, observed by our Jewish friends and community partners. Due to the City of Atlanta’s permitting requirements for large events, Atlanta Pride cannot change the festival dates. We are actively working with the Southern Jewish Resource Network for Gender and Sexual Diversity (SOJOURN) and other leaders in the Jewish community to ensure everyone has opportunities to celebrate Pride as our fullest and most authentic selves.”
Atlanta Pride’s board and staff are partnering with Jewish religious and community leaders to create ways for everyone to be engaged in and around the weekend’s festivities.
“It's unfortunate the first day of the festival will overlap with Yom Kippur," said Rebecca Stapel-Wax, executive director of SOJOURN. “The Atlanta Pride Committee is actively engaging with us and other Jewish leaders to ensure inclusivity for our communities. Given our decades-long partnership, we know Atlanta Pride is committed to exploring all options for collaboration. SOJOURN looks forward to exciting programming in the upcoming months and during Pride.”
