2023 was stressful. I moved out of my home of nearly 15 years and into one that’s requiring just a bit more work than we were hoping for. My job has become more complicated, rewarding as it may be. And Carrollton Rainbow… Well, Carrollton Rainbow kind of exploded and took over my free time.
I said stressful. I didn’t say it was all bad. Good stress is still stress. But even when things are overwhelmingly positive, they can still be… overwhelming. And because of this, you might (or might not) have noticed that there haven’t been a ton of social media posts lately.
Burnout doesn’t only affect our jobs, but it affects our family life, friendships, social commitments, hobbies, and so on. So, I’ve taken a few weeks off from posting daily memes, inspirational quotes, links for queer movies, and well, we haven’t had an event to share in a while.
2024 will probably be just as stressful, but I’m sure it will be just as rewarding if not more so. And the good news is that we have a team of fresh faces that are coming on board to help with making Carrollton Rainbow even more amazing as we grow. You’ll start seeing some introductions in the near future.
Not only are we planning for Carrollton Pride 2024 to be even bigger than last year (and who among us expected it to be as big as it was???), but we’re also planning a Pride Prom that is sure to be a night to remember. But even more than that, we’re thinking of ways to engage with the community in more and more meaningful outlets.
Things you can look forward to this year: more Spirit Nights, meet & greet gatherings, the return of regularly occurring drag, KARAOKE!, Social media spotlights on queer community members, more partnerships with other local organizations, new merch… The list goes on.
And you know, I suspect there will be at least one or two picnics.
Thanks for being a part of the West Georgia LGBTQIA+ community (or a beloved ally). Thanks for coming to our events, sharing your experiences, and rooting us on. Things are only going to get better from here, and we’re happy to have you around.
Much love, Lucy
